Frequently Asked Questions

Why Quartz?

Quartz stones are proven to be the best alternative to natural stone, offers advantages that are unattainable in marble, granite, and other natural stones. Lavistone surfaces are man-made engineered stones that are compressed slabs of ~90% raw quartz crystals with resin and pigment dyes to increase durability.

Produced in a strictly controlled environment to meet the most stringent safety standards in both manufacturing and finished product, our benchtops have everything a good surface needs. They are non-porous, non-toxic, require no sealants or wax to retain the hygiene standard, and are resistant to bacteria, mould and mildew.

Features of Engineered Stone

Heat Resistance
Lavistone surfaces offers good heat resistance. However, they can be damaged by high heat shock.

Do not put hot cookware directly onto Lavistone surfaces. We always recommend placing hot pots, oven trays and frying pans directly from the oven or hot plate onto a heat trivet or a mat. We also recommend that electric frying pans and slow cookers be placed on a wooden chopping board.

Strength and Durability
Quartz benchtops are one of the hardest stone surfaces, consisting quartz, which are 7 on the Mohs Scale of 10. Lavistone consists of up to 80% of the purest quartz particles compressed with resins and pigments to make the most resilient and sustainable surfaces.

Tough but not indestructible: excessive heat, weight, force/pressure and chemicals may permanently damage the surface. Like all surface materials, Lavistone should be treated with care.

Stain Resistant and Hygiene
All Lavistone surfaces are non-porous and are perfectly suited for kitchen areas, or wherever food is prepared, as they reduce the potential for bacterial growth and ensure surfaces are free of mould and bacteria.

Our products are endorsed by the Public Health and Safety Company (NSF) in accordance with international NSF 51 sanitary standards, Lavistone surfaces are also industry approved for installation in hospitals, restaurants, hotels and more.

Sealer or wax not required!
Our finishes give the surface its final look in terms of tactility (feel and touch) and light reflection.

Scratch Resistant
Food preparation: Cutting
Lavistone is composed of up to 80% natural quartz, providing it with superior hardness and strength. However, we always recommend using a chopping board to both prevent damage to the surface and dulling the knives.

Environmental Friendly
Greenguard certified!
We care for the environment and are proving our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

Cabinets or Carcasses

Benchtops should be installed on sturdy kitchen cabinets. When all fixed together, they must be flat and at the same level (not twisted) with no movements.

All cabinets must be built to fully support the weight of the benchtop. Full perimeter rail support is required which must not bend under the weight of the Lavistone benchtop.

Benchtop Overhang

Any overhangs >300mm, please discuss with your builder or designer about any additional support or structure support required.

Lavistone as Splashbacks

Behind a Gas Cooktop
Minimum 200mm distance is required from the periphery of the gas burner to the Lavistone Quartz splashback in accordance to AS/NZ 5601 Gas Installations.

Please consider Larona Surface porcelain if you do not meet the minimum 200mm distance.

Behind an Induction Cooktop:
Minimum 50mm distance is required from the splashback to the heat source. Refer to the manufacturer’s installation guidelines in regard to ventilation around the perimeter of the cooktop to provide airflow to fans within the cooktop unit.

For more information, please refer to and follow the relevant AS/NZS Standards

• AS/NZS 5601 Gas Installations
• AS/NZS 4386.2 Domestic Kitchen Assemblies – Installation
• Appliance and cooktop manufacturer’s specific installation guides should also be consulted.

Splashbacks behind an Induction Cooktop

Minimum 60mm distance is recommended from the splashback to the heat source. Refer to the manufacturer’s installation guidelines in regard to ventilation around the perimeter of the cooktop to provide airflow to fans within the cooktop unit.

Bathroom & Laundry

Suitable for bathroom and laundry use. Our surfaces are non–porous, waterproof and mould resistant.

Around a Fireplace

Warner Stone can withstand high heat but not extreme heat. Our products should never be used in the firebox or hearth of the fireplace but as a decorative feature only.

You should always consult with the manufacturer of the fireplace to ensure that the maximum heat does not exceed Warner Stone’s recommendations.

Outdoors

Not suitable for outdoors.

Although quartz material is durable and weather resistant, surfaces are made with resin which is relatively sensitive to UV. Standard engineered stone products are more likely to visibly change colour over time if affected by UV rays.

Around BBQ settings

When designing your BBQ area, always follow the cooking appliance manufacturer instructions. Clearance distances guidelines are outlined in AS/NZS 5601:1 2013 if guidelines are not provided. Many BBQ appliance offers a heat jacket option for installation around combustible materials.

Also, always consult a licensed gasfitter and follow the guidelines as set out in AS/NZS 5601.1:2013.

Under Skylight

Although indoors but will not be warranted. It is a natural phenomenon that resin will discolour under sun exposure.

Edging Types

Simple tips to minimize the possibility of chipping:

  • Minimum radius of at least 3-4mm on any edge profile is recommended. The larger the radius, the more resistance the edge will be.
  • Sharp edge profiles should never be used.
  • If you have an undermount sink, heavy pots might hit the edge frequently. Hence, the top edge of Warner Stone sink cut out must be a minimum radius of 6mm to increase edge resistance.

Discover Surface Types

Determined by the level of grounding the slab undergoes in its final stages, 3 finishes includes:

Polished
Reflective, illuminating the space with a natural brilliance that makes it seem larger and luxurious.

Matt
Light sheen that has a smooth matte texture. Soft on the eyes, a matt finish offers an organic luminosity.

Textured
Concrete texture, rougher surface with granular tactility and low light reflection.

Easy to Clean

Regardless of the surface finish, all Warner Stone surfaces are fully sealed and non-porous, which makes our surfaces stain resistant. For general cleaning, use a damp cloth and warm soapy water to clean the stone entirely.

For matt and textured surfaces, additional daily and weekly care is recommended as the matt finish does not disguise marks as well as the polished designs. This means more regular cleaning may be required. For example, oil smudges or prints might be apparent, and the affected area can appear glossy. We recommend using a multi-purpose cleaner and a fresh clean microfibre cloth to clean the whole stone thoroughly in order to always ensure a perfect matt look.
